The Gugumuka collection is a direct response to ongoing colonial narratives which stigmatise and perpetuate the miseducation around Lubugo (barkcloth). It is part of a wider systemic erasure of African culture, history, and tradition. Gugumuka urges us to recognize overlooked histories, emphasising Lubugo's role in resistance - historically against colonialism, and today against climate change.

"Gugumuka means 'wake-up'. Wake up to the history. Wake up to your roots."
