COMMUNITY

Founded by designers Katende Godfrey and Kasoma Ibrahim, both trained by local tailors in their neighbourhood, IGC Fashion stands for Ibrahim and Godfrey’s Community Fashion. The name itself reflects its roots: a practice grown from, and accountable to, the community that shaped it. More than a label, IGC continues to exist through its ongoing commitment to that community - most visibly through initiatives like the Fashion Cypher, which extends the same spirit of learning, exchange, and collective creativity.

Uganda’s huge youth demographic, combined with persistent challenges around gender equity and the informal economy, has created a precarious reality for many. Through IGC Fashion and Fashion Cypher, we are building an industry that prioritises people over profit - a support system designed to help the community thrive.

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

We proudly keep 100% of our production in Uganda, employing a predominantly young, female workforce, prioritizing marginalized communities, and ensuring fair wages throughout. Through monthly community outreaches, free residencies, designer masterclasses, and annual events like Kwetu Kwanza and Gugumukira Mu Kazo, we’re committed to teaching, nurturing, and showcasing emerging talent that often goes unseen. Our work proves that locally-led fashion can tackle social challenges, drive sustainable development, and preserve culture - all at the same time. Explore Fashion Cyphers to see how we do it and how you can be part of this movement.
